Marseille-Fos, a port community in a continuous improvement approach
Objectives:
- Federate operators around common values to make our port community more reliable and competitive
- Communicate about the positive change dynamics in the port community since the 2011 reform
- Foster the emergence of initiatives for improving the quality of service
- Value the companies that set and execute improvement strategies
For whom?
- The quality charter concerns every operator and activity involved in our port community:
- Associations and trade unions
- Companies
- Public sector
- No obligation nor any extra financial contribution is necessary to adhere to the Port Community Quality Charter
How to register?
- The company declares membership by signing the document « Charte Qualité Place Portuaire » (Port Community Quality Charter)
- The initiatives (improvement strategy) will be valued through a communication ran by the UMF and professional associations.
How to value one’s initiatives?
- The company sets its project according to the three key points mentioned in the port community quality charter
- Definition of target results, commitment of resources, and timescale
- The company submits its project to the UMF, or its professional association, in the form of a summary document
- Establishment of tools and meetings to evaluate the progress of the project
- Communication by the UMF or professional associations
- With the three key points of this charter, every operator in our port community should be able to find initiatives that can be conducted in their organisation
The three key points of the Charter
- AXIS 1: Quality of service:
- Performance (e.g. reduction in docking time, speed of operation)
- Traffic fluency, processing time (e.g. speed of the processing of ships)
- Training, employee skills
- Service continuity
- AXIS 2: Safety and security
- Securing of goods and passengers
- Security of the operators
- Securing of the ships
- AXIS 3: Environment
- Reduction of the carbon footprint on the WHOLE supply chain (the loaders that get closer (logistics platform) to the port areas so as to shorten the last-mile logistics may be rewarded)
- Reduction of emissions of COV (volatile organic compounds)
- Waste treatment
