The protection and indemnity insurance, better known as “P&I” insurance, is a form of mutual maritime insurance provided by a P&I Club. It ensures the cover of unlimited risks that traditional insurers hesitate to cover. In the beginning, members of the P&I Club were generally shipowners, ship operators or charterers, but recently, forwarding agents and warehouse operators were allowed to join them.
