Port industry

Function / Activity

An industrial-port zone (shortened as ZIP in geography) is a coastline that couples industrial and port functions; it is an area specifically equipped, located on and near the water. It features a port that enables the accommodation of large vessels transporting large amounts of goods (containers or raw material) and a multimodal platform that enables these goods to head back very quickly through other means of transportation to be consumed (like gas, coal or food), refined (like oil) or stored (like some containers). ZIPs bring together all the branches of the port industry.
