The professions deeply changed: now the captain of a river vessel must be part of a complex logistic system, maintain relationships with logisticians and customers, master the communication systems and driver assistant systems such as VHF, transpondeurs, AIS, Radar, electronic maps, electronic mail…

Moreover, river transportation is, by far, the least polluting shipping method.
